Tharaka Secondary School was founded on the 6th of May, 1969, at the MCK Church within the Marimanti Rural Training Centre. It began as a mixed Harambee secondary school with a humble population of 26 students — five of whom were girls — who were housed at Kamatungu Primary School while cooking their own meals.
The school's first principal, Mr. Kinyua Josphat Migui, along with Sponsor William James and BOG Chairman Mr. Ikunyua, laid the foundations for what would become one of the most respected institutions in Tharaka Nithi County.
Today, TSS sits on a magnificent 100-acre campus located 1.5 km east of Marimanti town centre in Tharaka South Sub-county, a testament to decades of growth and community investment.
